GHOSTS ON FILM AND OUTSIDE MY HOUSE: MY LIST
Blog post on cinematracker.com by user ullmansflag.
i made this list to try and think about something (anything) other than what’s been on my mind lately. she came in last week’s storm. i’ve seen her twice since then.
(well) i guess this is a list of ghost films? like the best ones? i started with A Ghost Story, because i think it’s the sweetest haunting you can find. but it still cuts deep, real deep. the girl that i saw was kind of like casey's character in this film. kind of staring, always still. she was out in the rain, looking at my room. it also made me think about the old man ghost in The Innkeepers, which is the best film that I‘ve ever seen that i also have trouble staying awake as i rewatch it. the old man was kind of reaching though... so maybe that’s not right either.
back to the list... The Shining and The Uninvited both belong on this list. you could argue that the ghosts in The Shining aren’t ghosts at all, but i wonder if that argument holds up. it’s the hotel, the darkness at the hotel that makes it them so hostile. is my girl hostile? or she like the mother in The Uninvited? unfinished business and all that?
i keep expecting to see the girl in my room, in my kitchen. she’s not much taller than me, but certainly thinner. sickly looking, with dark eyes and wet hair. maybe that’s why she only comes out when it storms? did she drown? did somebody drown her? i hate the way she looks up at me. just looking up
my dad says its supposed to storm tonight. he says a lot of things, and he’s usually right. he’s gone right now. he travels for business a lot, but mom and i get along fine. she likes movies too, but not scary ones. no ghost movies for mom
i hope it doesn’t storm. as soon as it rains, i know i’ll have to go to my window. pause whatever i’m watching so i can check and see if she's waiting. how long until she decides to come inside? how long before she watches me from my closet, from behind my tv?
i hope she doesn’t. i don’t think i’m ready for that.
